    Poinsettia Christmas Dress

    December 23, 2015November 7, 2017

Instead of composting all the poinsettias this year, we decided to attach them to a dress. The greenhouse team, Sara, Morgan, and Brooke modeled the dress that they helped to create. Our inspiration came from Okishima and Simmonds, a floral studio in Europe. More images to come.

If you've been a customer of ours for a while, you If you've been a customer of ours for a while, you'll know that the plant we recommend starting with is a peace lily.

Why?

Because it's a plant that will tell you when it needs water. It's also a great plant to learn how dry your environment is - learning when you may need to water the rest of your tropical plants.
It's time to introduce myself to all the new plant It's time to introduce myself to all the new plant people that have joined us over the last few months.

My name is Christie and I own and operate a greenhouse in Northern Alberta in a small community.

Our greenhouse is unique in that my husband Tanner and I planned it and built it - we're a first generation operation.

Five random facts about me:
1) I have a cactus collection including a totem pole cactus that is 27 years old! I got it when my sister was born and I call it "The Jessica Cactus" after my sister.

2) I took horticulture at Olds College (over 15 years ago) and still have two of the plants that we got in our program to look after and learn with (a peace lily and a pothos).

3) The two plant tools I couldn't live without are my felco #2 pruning sheers and a good hand lens.

4) I have a couple unofficial businesses that I'm actively building on the side (the entrepreneur in me can't help it).

5) Last but not least, I'm a mom to a very bright and spirited 2 year old. She is very observant and is truly a miniature version of me (watch out world!) with "yellow hair" (we're natural blondes, and she calls our hair yellow). Tanner and I love her to bits!

Now it's your turn! What are some random facts about YOU?
I don't know about you, but I'm anxiously counting I don't know about you, but I'm anxiously counting the days until spring; to feel the sun on my face, to see green grass and flowers.⠀
⠀
Today on our stories I'm talking about the difference between growing and caring for our indoor plants vs our outdoor plants.⠀
⠀

We fail too, all the time. The more you grow plant We fail too, all the time. The more you grow plants, the more you learn how forgiving they are. And that's the fun part, figuring out what works best for each one.⠀
⠀
This year we decided to grow our own crop of tropicals, but with a lack of light (with our days being so short in the winter in Northern Alberta), and colder temperatures we lost nearly 10% of our baby fiddles. But, figuring out what we were doing wrong enabled us to bring a bunch of them back to life!⠀
⠀
If plants could teach, they'd tell us to keep trying and even if we do fail, to learn and grow on!
