Hi, I'm Christie

Here’s why planting trees and shrubs in the fall is the best time of year to plant.

Planting trees and shrubs in the fall in Alberta is one of the best times of the year to plant.

Fall in Alberta begins when our night temperature begins to drop below 5 degrees celsius. With cooler nights an initiation within our ecosystem starts that turns summer almost overnight into fall.

Typically in northern Alberta fall begins by the end of August, and luckily that ushers in the perfect planting and transplanting time.

Temperature

Cooler nights, and warm days allows a newly transplanted tree or shrub the time to get settled in before winter, without the stress of the hot summer weather.

Light

As light levels lessen, the growth of trees and shrubs slows and so does water use. Instead of having to water a newly transplanted tree or shrub every 2-5 days (as you might have to do in the summer), you’ll be able to water every 5-10 days depending on heat/rain.
