Is this your first year planting a vegetable garden? Are you trying to decode what you should seed and when? Are you trying to figure out if you should start your plants inside the house or right in the garden?
According to Alberta Agriculture, High Prairie’s average last frost date for spring is May 30th.
When the snow melts away and the weather warms up, direct seed the following veggies, herbs and flowers right into your garden:
Beginning of May: Lettuce, Radishes, Carrots, Kale, Beets
Mid May: Peas, Beans, Potatoes, Onion Sets, Dill, Cilantro, Corn,
Mid-Late May: Cucumbers, Squash, Nasturtiums, Sunflowers, Zucchini
Transplant the following at the end of May into your garden (these must be started ahead): Tomatoes, Peppers, Cabbage, Pumpkins, Strawberries, Marigolds, Petunias, (and most other annual bedding plants).
Happy Seeding!
